Sun 7/24 @ 6-7:30PM
The wildly popular annual Opera at the Italian Garden isn’t so much a musical event as a happening. People come early to this free event with their blankets and picnic basket and set up under the trees and on the lawn of the beautiful, expansive Italian Cultural Garden in Rockefeller as much to enjoy the ambiance as the singing.
The music, performed by members of the Cleveland Opera, consists of familiar arias from Italian opera, popular Italian songs and tunes from Broadway musicals — pretty much the same from year to year. In recent years, it’s augmented the music with performances by dancers from the Cleveland Ballet, who will be appearing again at this edition.
There are always chairs set up on the terrace around the fountain but you’ll want to come early to snag one. While the evening is free, if you want to guarantee yourself a front-row seat, you can buy a reserved-seat ticket for $28.50. If you don’t bring your own food, there’s usually a pizza vendor and a bar. And there will be free wine tastings as well!
