Fri 6/24- Sun 6/26
There aren’t any pirates anymore on Lake Erie (that we know of), but that’s not stopping Put-in-Bay from hosting its Pyrate Festival, which means the usual weekend revelry on South Bass Island is going to be even more over-the-top than usual.
Start with dressing up like a pirate for $1 off your fare on the Miller Ferry. One you get there, the weekend-long event kicks off with the Pyrate Fest flag-raising at 4:30pm in downtown DeRivera Park by the marina, followed by a pub crawl (and you know there are plenty of pubs to crawl to at Put-in-Bay), sponsored, appropriately by Malibu Rum.
On Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5pm there’s a “pirate encampment” and marketplace in DeRivera Park with pirate-themed kids’ activities from 10am-noon with “Captain Jack Sparrow.” On both days, there’ll be “black powder” demonstrations throughout the day with Bob Gilmore and his crew who create effects for movies & TV.
