Every year there are more and more Juneteenth events, celebrating the day in 1865 when the last slaves were freed. The Mx. Juneteenth one is slightly different.
It calls itself “a space for reverence, remembrance, and celebration for the Juneteenth holiday,” specifically “space that adheres a Black queer feminist politics that centers abolition, community, solidarity with all oppressed communities, and anti-bigotry … to honor the special holiday of Juneteenth by adhering to a Black queer feminist framework & praxis.”
At the event, which takes place at 4701 Perkins on the edge of AsiaTown, you’ll find food, vendors, live music and drag performers in an environment which welcomes everyone. There’s a suggested donation of $7.
