Cleveland indie/punk quartet Signals Midwest has been together since 2008 and had accomplished a lot, much of it under the radar of their hometown. They’ve toured the U.S. numerous times; they’ve toured Europe. They’ve released a bunch of EPs and singles and four albums: Burn the Blueprints (2009), Light on the Lake (2011), Latitudes and Longitudes (2013) and At This Age (2016). So yeah, it’s been a while and they were due for their fifth. The ten-song DENT was just released in April.
“Inspired by a stolen and ultimately totaled van, the album confronts the uncertainty of a world at halt, and transmits the shaken-up-soda-can energy that fueled its writing process,” the band says. “With a feedback squeal and a quick four-count, DENT hits the ground running, and what follows is just over a half-hour’s worth of big songs about little moments, ominous futures, the lure of nostalgia, and finding shards of peace in an almost all-consuming wreckage.”
Also “We took a big hit in Europe due to half our band getting COVID.”
But they all survived and now band is taking DENT out into the world, with a tour that kicks off in Pittsburgh (June 10) and Cleveland (June 11) and takes them to New York, Boston, Washington D.C., New Haven, Philadelphia, Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbus and Akron.
