For those who remember the old summertime Parties in the Park back in the 70s and 80s, a new series called Music in the Malls aims to capture some of that spirit, giving northeast Ohio’s a chance to spend a summer evening downtown listening to live music and grabbing some food from a food truck or a nearby eatery.
For 13 weeks — June 8-August 31 — local artists will play on Mall C every Wednesday, kicking off this week with long-running swamp rockers Cats on Holiday playing their high-energy blend of blues, rock and zydeco. There’ll be food trucks there each week and plenty of seating to kick back and enjoy the music, if you’re not up on your feet and dancing (And with Cats on Holiday you probably will be.)
On June 15, Daddy Longlegs Homegrown Revival brings their eclectic world-travelling blend, followed by Becky Boyd & the Groove Train, featuring powerful blues singer Boyd, on June 22. Akron’s American Ben Gage Band closes out the month on June 29.
