Coventry Village Celebrates Juneteenth With Black-Oriented Street Fair

The Katy

Sun 6/19 @1-8PM

Cleveland Heights’ Coventry Village is among the many joining the ever-growing number of Juneteenth events.

It’s actually the third annual such event for the neighborhood which celebrates Black history, culture, creativity and entrepreneurship. It’ll features more than 80 Black artisans and business owners, sidewalk sales by the street’s merchants, free snacks and food from local Black restaurateurs, artists live-painting murals, and live music by both national acts such as Yaya Bey and Blvck Hippie, as well as local acts like The Katy (pictured) and Mooke Da God.

This will be the first time in 11 years that Coventry Road between Euclid Heights and Mayfield Road will be closed, following a scuffle at the last Coventry Street Fair involving hundreds of teens. They assure us that “Mayor Kahlil Seren has worked with Coventry Village Special Improvement District to ensure that this event will be safe and fun for all residents of Cleveland Heights and beyond. He will be attending the event and making a public address.”

There’ll also be fun activities for kids such as face painting, a magic show and crafts, information booths from local activist groups for the adults, and a portable roller skating rink for everyone.

If you still don’t feel like going home as it gets dark, you can join the drum circle under the PEACE Arch from 7:30-9pm and check out a free screening of Pixar’s SOUL in the PEACE Park starting at 9pm.

The event is free & open to all.
