World Pickleball Tour Brings Latest Sport Craze to Mentor

Fri 5/6—Sat 5/7

One of the latest participatory sports crazes in the U.S. is Pickleball. It’s an easy-to-play activity for all ages and skill levels that combines aspects of badminton, ping pong, wiffleball and tennis. It’s been around since the 60s, mainly as a kids’ game, but its enjoyed a urge in recent years, especially during the pandemic.

Now the World Pickleball Tour, which launched last year in Columbus, Ohio, is hosting the Cleveland Pickleball Classic at Mentor Civic Center Park this weekend, May 6 and 7, part of some two dozen events its sponsoring this year.

Hundreds of amateur plays are expected to be competing for $5,000 to be divided among first place winners at each skill level, with players ranging from 18-75. Watching is free! Come on out and see if it’s something you’d like to take part in next time. Go here for more information.
