Sat 5/7 @ 7PM
Cleveland jazz vocalist Carol Leslie is a regular at the BOP STOP, where she performs torch songs from the Great American Songbook, along with a mix of contemporary pop and R&B tunes. She cites influences ranging from Ella Fitzgerald, Cleo Laine and Sarah Vaughan, to Barbra Striesand, Liza Minnelli, Diana Ross and Frank Sinatra, and even Lady Gaga. She’s got a CD called Live at the BOP STOP if you’d like to preview what you might hear: tunes ranging from Billie Holiday’s “Fine and Mellow,” to Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning,” to “The Boy from Ipanema,” to the Beatles” “We Can Work It Out.”
When she makes a return appearance at the BOP Stop, she tends to vary things about by bringing along some special guests. And her upcoming appearance is no different. She’ll be joined by Cleveland-based Algerian guitarist Hichem Ferrah who has a recent album called Ouarda. “If we’re lucky, in this performance, he’ll play a little something from his latest album,” she says. Well, Carol, that’s up to you, isn’t it? So I guess we can count on it!
She’ll also be accompanied by bassist Jeff Slater, pianist Ed Ridley and drummer Sunny Tabler for a full-bodied sound behind her vocals.
Tickets are $20; the show will also be livestreamed for free on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page. That’s free but you can make a donation here if you like what you hear.
