Bicyclists Observe Ride/Walk of Silence for Safer Streets

Wed 5/18 @ 6:30-8:30PM

One of the obstacles to “greening” our transportation system is how streets are designed to favor cars; they often dangerous to pedestrians and cyclists. It’s a nationwide and even international problem, which drives the global Ride & Walk of Silence, taking place May 18.

Here, the event is hosted by Bike Cleveland, the nonprofit that advocates for bicyclists and for safer streets in greater Cleveland. Participants are invited to join them for a walk or slow-paced ride in memory of those who have been killed or injured on the roads.

There will actually be three events/location, each starting at 6:30pm. You can meet at the Free Stamp downtown or at the John Carroll University parking lot next to the Dolan Science Center for a five-mile ride to University Hospital for a short presentation. (Riders can then join others to return to their starting point.) Another group will meet at 6:30 at Rockefeller Lagoon on MLK Blvd across from the VA Hospital for a 1.2-mile sidewalk ride that returns to the same location.

Riders are asked to ride slowly & silently. Anyone who wants to speak about their own experience with unsafe streets will be able to do so at the presentation. It’s free and no registration is required.
