Founded in Cleveland in 2010, Clint Holley’s Well Made Music is one of the few disc cutting and vinyl mastering studios in the country that supply the master lacquers to vinyl pressing plants, utilizing a specialized skill set and rare equipment necessary to support the resurgence of interest in vinyl recording listening and collecting.
Now, Clint and his partner Dave Polster and a slew of former Clevelanders have opened The Earnest Tube as a recording studio specializing in direct-to-lacquer recordings, often originating from a single high-quality microphone, almost identical to the way early country artists recorded in the 1920’s. The recordings are crystal clear, spontaneous and fresh, as the process allows no multi-tracking or corrections.
The Earnest Tube and Well Made Music are located in Bristol on the border between Tennessee and Virginia, the home of Country Music’s big bang, the 1927-28 RCA-Victor recording sessions featuring The Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers and others, which marked the beginnings of the commercialization and popularization of country music.
