LatinUs Theater, located at the Pivot Center on the edge of the Clark-Fulton neighborhood, is Ohio’s first independent Latin theater, dedicated to producing plays in Spanish (with English-language super titles) that deal with different aspects of life in Latin communities.
Its next production, Tiempo Muerto, written by the Puerto Rican writer Manuel Méndez Ballester in the 1930s, is described as “a tragedy in three acts.” It looks a poverty in Puerto Rico under the social system of 100 years ago, driven by the sugarcane industry, and a poor farmer suffering poverty and misery as a result of it. Directed by John Rivera Resto, it features northeast Ohio Latin actors, including a pair of Puerto Rican actors, along with a Mexican actor and several Colombians, living in northeast Ohio. Uruguayan musician/composer Dr. Pablo Gomez created an original score for the production.
The play runs Fridays-Sundays through Sunday May 1 with curtain time at 7pm Friday and Saturday and 1:30pm on Sunday. Tickets are $25 general admission, $15 for students and seniors. Get them here.
