New Cleveland History Center Show Celebrates Motorcycles

Sat 4/16 @ 1PM

The Cleveland History Center’s Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum is celebrating the “Year of the Motorcycle.” And this week it follows up the recently closed A Century of the American Motorcycle exhibit with Open Road: The Lure of Motorcyling in Ohio, which opens on Thursday April 14.

While the earlier exhibit featured historically significant American-made motorcycles from the collection of the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, Alabama, Open Road includes from the U.S. Japan, Great Britain, Europe and Argentina, all from local private collections.

“Some of the bikes are very rare, with histories involving round-the-world adventure or wheel-to-wheel competition, says curator John Lutsch in the event press release. “We think the diversity of these unique machines will be intriguing for motorcycle riders and non-riders. This exhibit also helps reinforce the lure of motorcycling in the Buckeye state, where we are ranked fourth in the U.S. in the number of registered riders.”

The grand opening event for the show will take place on Saturday April 16 @ 1pm with a presentation and book signing by Helge Pederson, a long-distance cyclist who who’s the author of a book, 10 Years on 2 Wheels: 77 Countries, 250,000 Miles, about his travels. Tickets are $15.
