The gentleman known as “Peanuts” was a fixture on the Cleveland music scene from the early 70s when he worked as a roadie for bands such as Zephaniah Cross. He later found a home at Scene Magazine, serving as its representative/emcee at events it sponsored. Later he contributed to small magazines mostly writing reviews of blues and classic rock-type albums, and he continued to show up at the gigs of his long-time musicians friends and his personal favorites such as Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. He was one of the most reliable visitors to former Plain Dealer music reporter Jane Scott after she was in a nursing home, sharing updates on her condition. And he was legendary for keeping his network posted about who died.
Every year, he hosted two big events: his Thanksgiving Eve All-Star Jam where he convened many of his old musician friends from the 70s and 80s, and his annual Peanuts Birthday Party each February. He also rode in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade each year, with his friend Ron Sweed aka the Ghoul, who died in 2019.
He hadn’t been in good health in recent years, and he passed away on Halloween last year. He’d be disappointed that he didn’t get to share his own death! So his friends are hosting a belated birthday celebration called Peanuts’ Last Bash at the Inferno Lounge at Yorktown Lanes in Parma. Old-time scenesters in particular will want to come and share their Peanuts tales and other stories about hanging out and hearing bands back in the day.
All are welcome!
