As the weather warms — but not too much — it’s time for maple sugaring in Northeast Ohio. Throughout March you’ll find maple sugaring-related events around the area, including the Hale Farm & Village in Bath, with its two maple sugaring weekends.
Maple sugaring fits right in with Hale Farms Village of recreating 19th-century Ohio’s lifestyle and the activities people engaged in back then. And the process of collecting sap and turning it into maple syrup hasn’t changed much. There’ll be outdoor demonstrations of the 19-century process of tapping trees, as well as a sugar camp that shows how the sap was boiled for syrup. As usual, there’ll be demonstrations of traditional crafts such as waving, spinning, glassblowing and blacksmithing and even a draft horse demonstration.
The weekends also feature a pancake breakfast, giving visitors the chance to actually taste that maple syrup on something. Eat onsite or purchase a breakfast to carry out. Male syrup and maple products such as candies and sauces will be available in the Marketplace at Hale Far & Village, along with made-in-Ohio souvenirs.
