With two-term officeholder Armond Budish retiring, Cuyahoga County will be electing a new county executive in November.  Given the county’s strong blue tilt, it’s most likely to be Chris Ronayne, who retired as the head of University Circle Inc to run as the Democratic candidate. (He no longer has any serious primary challengers, which is a whole other story.)

Although Ronayne has never held elected office, he has extensive government experience. He served on the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission in the mid-late 90s, and as Cleveland’s Planning Director and chief of staff in Mayor Jane Campbell’s administration in 2001-2005. He joined University Circle Inc in 2005 where he served for 16 years during a period of major growth and transformation for the area.

Hear his ideas and goals for the county when he speaks at the City Club Tuesday March 15. The program will also be livestreamed at the City Club’s website. You can tweet questions to @TheCityClub or text them to 330-541-5794.

He’ll have a Republican opponent. Lee Weingart, who served briefly as a Cuyahoga county commissioner in the mid 1990s; Weingart will speak at the City Club March 23.
