Since the late ’90s, musician/peace activist/traveler/Kirtan practitioner Zach Friedhof has been a tireless presence in the Akron music scene, performing, releasing album after album, and organizing events that often blend music and the arts with mindfulness and his dedication to spreading positive vibes.
He’s definitely one of the area’s most prolific musicians, as the release of his 25th album this week proves — he just released his 24th, Guideline, last fall! His first came out in 1999.) He didn’t even need to tell us that “lots of music has been happening over the last month or so,” because with him it almost always is. The new release is called Holy: Jai Ma Vol 4, a record of mantra and movement leaning on his spiritual side. As with Guideline, he did all of it himself.
And that’s not all. He’s got a flock of videos, some new collaborations and a couple of upcoming shows at Akron’s Rialto Theatre, which he’s called Bright Lights Automagical Experience, featuring his collaborator Randi Driscoll, celebrating their joint new record Automagical, and, he says, “the arrival of spring.” He says that he “hopes his reordings can be a catalyst for uplift, mental health and community.”

Oh, and just to make you feel even more unproductive he adds, “Also in the works – my 26th release is done and should be out late summer, and my 27th release is nearly finished, and I’m looking at the fall to release.”
Sheesh. Go here to keep up with all his diverse activities. If you can.

This pretty much describes Zach in one article. Akron and beyond is very fortunate to have him, as he contributes so much to the local community and the world through his big heart of kindness as well as his musical contributions and support of local musicians and venues. Support of original music is so needed in our area so I highly recommend attending any of his shows with his band or solo; you will be uplifted and feel his music in your heart…much needed in our turbulent times.
