Wed 3/9 @ 7PM
Between 1974-1980, the high point of many music fans’ summer were the giant concerts at the 80,000 lakefront stadium that was then home to both the baseball and football teams. Dubbed “The World Series of Rock,” they features acts such as Aerosmith, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Seger, J. Geils, Todd Rundgren, Pink Floyd, Electric Light Orchestra, Rod Stewart, Emerson Lake and Palmer, AC/DC Peter Frampton, Foreigner, Journey and Yes. They were really more events than concerts: undoubtedly the concertgoers who were already being carried out in ambulances after passing out before the first note was even played thought they got their money’s worth: they were THERE.
If that was you, you can re-live the day at the Music Box Supper Club. It’s hosting the next edition of Cleveland.com reporter Troy Smith’s podcast, titled “Remembering a Summer Classic.” His guests include concert promoter Jules Belkin and his wife Fran, and two of the drivers behind Cleveland’s then-reigning radio station, WMMS-FM, which helped fill that enormous stadium: program director John Gorman and on-air personality Denny Sanders.
The program starts at 7pm and it’s free. Doors open for dinner at 5pm. Make a table reservation here.
