Levin College Forum Looks at NE Ohio’s Social & Economic Challenges

Mon 2/28 @ 8:30-10AM

In the last 20 years or so, the local civic space has been filled with endless programs, initiatives, conferences and new organizations dedicated to building a better Northeast Ohio, marked by loud cheerleading and copious use of the word “innovation.” Yet, as more “luxury” developments and recreational areas fill the near west side and money is poured into professional sports facilities and special events, Cleveland is now the poorest big city in America, a condition that impacts the whole region.

Why? What are we doing wrong and what can we do to get it right? That’s the subject addressed by the virtual forum “Resetting the Table: Creating an Urban Equity Agenda,” presented by Cleveland State’s Levin College of Urban Affairs in Partnership with PolicyBridge, a local think tank for African-American issues. It’s the first of a series of forums asking “Is it possible to implement cross-sector planning that addresses the intersecting social and economic challenges facing Cleveland?” Or are we just going to have a lot more showy events with the word “innovation” in the title?

PolicyBridge chairman Randell McShepard will moderate a panel that include Cleveland mayor Justin M. Bibb, PolicyBridge’s Greg Brown, India Lee Pierce of the Cleveland Foundation and Greater Cleveland Partnership president/CEO Bauju Shah.
