Sun 2/27 @ 3-4PM
Liza Grossman recently stepped down from leading an organization, the Contemporary Youth Orchestra. As executive director/music director/conductor of the teen orchestra for more than 20 years, she commissioned new works for the ensemble and drew pop music celebrities such as Kenny Loggins, Pat Benatar, Jason Mraz, Ben Folds and Bootsie Collins to collaborate with the group. In addition, she’s guest conducted other orchestra, performed and recorded with many artists as a violist and served as tour conductor for the band Styx.
She left CYO in mid 2020 to found another project, the Kaboom Collective, which she launched several months later. It draws on a wide circle of both local and national musicians, educators, composers, recording engineers and producers, promoters, and even yoga instructors and photographers to expose young people ages 16-21 to the vast array of potential jobs and creative opportunities in the arts.
Grossman will speak as part of the Fairmount Center for the Arts’ “Pull Back the Curtain” speaker series on “Turning Passion into Purpose.” And it will take place live at the Fairmount Center in Novelty! It’s free and open to all; reservations are requested. Go here or call 440-338-3171.
