Back in the heyday of arena rock – the 70s and early 80s — Swingos Keg & Quarter aka Swingos Celebrity Inn on the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 18th Street (now a nondescript Comfort Inn) was a legendary rock & roll hotel, where bands like Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones and the Who raged, televisions were tossed from windows and groupies were tied up to beds. Its bar was a post-show meeting place where Bonnie Bramlett famously punched Elvis Costello for making racist remarks; its restaurant hosted every promotion man treating radio people to steaks (and Ted Nugent once stood up in the middle of a meal and started ranting about how the steaks were full of hormones and chemicals and you should only eat meat you hunted yourself).
CLE Rocks Presents… will be doing a live recording at the Music Box Supper Club, hosted by Cleveland.com reporter Troy L. Smith, as people who were there recall that crazy time. Panelists include Matt Swingos, of the restaurant-owning Swingos family; filmmakers Andrew and Catherine Marquard ho produced the documentary Swingos Celebrity Inn; and former Cleveland DJ and current artist manager David Spero.
It’s free to attend but you must make a reservation here.
