Who would have thought that a weekly email linking readers to cool local artists and entrepreneurs would still be overflowing with fresh ideas a mere 19 years later. In fact, the CoolCleveland e-blast is more relevant than ever, as local businesses, makers and craftspeople struggle with the pandemic and competition from online retailers, big boxes and social media drawing valuable attention away from the local community. It’s a wonder some of them are still in business.

So make it a point to support the offerings we’ve curated for your holiday week, from the last big artist market of the season at the Screw Factory, to a Winter Solstice Hike and Fire at Liberty Park Nature Center, to holiday concerts, shows and sing-alongs all around the region.

The gals of Veganish are baking Vegan Christmas cookies, we revisit Mansfield Frazier’s column on Carolers For Justice, and we interview Clevelander Mike Milano, who worked with Mansfield for 8 years directing the film, 137 Shots, which drops on Netflix today. I wonder how that’s going to go over.
