Not all birds fly south for the winter. Lots of hardy avians hang around here through the winter, enjoying our local parks, woods, streams and meadows, even when they’re under a blanket of snow.
It doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing any snow soon but you can join Summit Metro Parks are couple of times this week to check out the birds. On Monday January 3 @ 10AM, a naturalist will be leading a Winter Bird Walkabout in Cascade Valley Metro Park at its latest restored property, the Valley View Area, to look for birds. Meet at the lodge, warmly dressed and with binoculars in hand. Afterwards the group will meet back at the lodge for hot chocolate and to share lists of birds spotted.
On Wednesday January 5 at 10am, meet at the Liberty Park Nature Center for a National Bird Day Hike, where a parks bird expert will lead a stroll and talk about what to look for. There’ll be a cozy fire at the nature center afterwards to warm up.
