Thu 12/9 @ 5-7PM
The Canton Museum of Art’s four winter shows opened last month, but they’ll be celebrating them with a reception this week on Thursday December 9 @ 5-7pm.
All four shows have some connection to pop art, street art or surrealism — or a combination of those elements.
They include Marvelocity: The Art of Alex Ross, showcasing the work of the noted comic book artist who has illustrated characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Avengers and Captain America; he’s done poster and promotional art as well including a “Yellow Submarine” piece honoring the Beatles. The show features more than 50 works, along with childhood drawings, preliminary sketches and other items that show how his work is developed. It even includes a video interview with Ross.
The other shows currently on view include Tom Franco and The Ice-Creams: Beyond Struggle, When the Future Hello Meets Identities Deep Roots; Unsound: Hannah Pierce Ceramics; and POP!. They’ll be up through March 20, 2022.
The reception is free (the museum is free on Thursdays). the museum’s curatorial staff will be there as will exhibiting folk artist Tom Franco, a self-dubbed “outsider” artist. Masks are required.
