It’s become a tradition for Cleveland’s Blue Lunch to bring their lively horn-driven swing/jump/rock to the Beachland Ballroom for their Christmas Latke Party. The general idea was that it gave those who were Jewish or otherwise non-Christian something to do on a day they didn’t celebrate. The latkes are the potato pancakes traditionally served on Hanukkah.
This year Hanukkah was way early, starting at the end of Thanksgiving weekend and ending in early December. But never mind; latkes are good any time. And in keeping with the Blue Lunch tradition, they’ll be added to the Beachland’s regular menu just for tonight.
As for the music, Blue Lunch will be augmenting its show with a couple of special guest performers: blues/roots harmonica player/vocalist Hank Mowery out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, who leads his own band the Hawktones, and singer/harmonica player Tom Moore, who’s guested with Blue Lunch at previous Latke Christmas parties.
DJ Pete London kicks things off at 7pm, spinning R&B, soul and blues. Live music starts at 8. Admission is $15 and it’s an all-ages show.
