It’s been a while since we’ve seen or heard from jazz/classical trumpet player/composer Josh Rzepka, an Akron native who has widely resettled in Chicago. (It’s actually been a while since we’ve seen or heard from a lot of musicians — thanks, pandemic!)
So what’s he been doing? He’s continued to teach — why he moved — and tour with classic rock vocal quartet Under the Streetlamp, and started a YouTube channel for trumpet players.
Now he’s returning to his hometown to perform for one night only at the recently reopened Blu Jazz, with a quartet that features pianist Joey Skoch, bassist Mike Forfia and drummer Zaire Darden. They’ll be playing a mix of jazz standards, original compositions and holiday tune.
