Jim Ballard is one of the veterans of the Cleveland acoustic singer/songwriter scene. He released his first album South Side Days back in 1976, followed by a few more in the late 70s and early-mid 80s.
There was a gap in his recordings until the ’00s, when he emerged with a more rocked-up sound, performing blue-collar roots rock a la Tom Petty or Bruce Springsteen. In 2018, he released his 11th album, a double-disc set called Ask John Steinbeck, which featured the same songs played twice in different arrangements. That was quickly followed by Good Bones and recently, One Night.
He and his five-member band, the Strangs, will make a stop at Jilly’s Music Room in Akron this week to share old and new favorites with fans. Yankee Bravo shares the bill. Admission is $5.
