The 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street, about a department store Santa who may or may not be the real thing, convincing a skeptical little girl to believe in him, has be come a holiday classic. That film launched the career of 8-year-old Natalie Wood as Little Susan.
While the original film remains the favor to be screening every December there was a 1994 remake, several TV versions, a Broadway musical and a stage version, much performed by community theaters in need of something for the season other than A Christmas Carol.
The Fine Arts Association in Willoughby, however, is staging Miracle on 34th Street The Musical, a 1963 version also known as Here’s Love with book, lyrics and music by Meredith Willson, best known for The Music Man. Among a list of mostly forgotten tunes, it includes an earlier Willson-penned song “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” which he wrote more than ten years prior.
It’ll be performed through Sunday December 19, with Friday evening performances @ 7:30pm and Saturday and Sunday performances @ 2pm. Go here for tickets.
