The annual Lakewood Witches Walk, put together by the New Moon boutique on Madison, had a New Orleans theme this year, with participating businesses along Madison sporting signs dubbing them with NOLA names. New this year was a vendors market featuring candles, crystals, Halloween-themed artwork and more, with face painting for the kids and candy for everyone at every booth. “Don’t eat too many sweets,” a mother was heard admonishing. Good luck with that.
Up and down the street, broom-marked businesses had specials, a markers market was set up behind Fear’s Confections and a stage at an abandoned gas station featured music all day, including the blues of Austin Walkin’ Cane, Mo’Mojo’s zydeco party music and S.J. Tucker’s intensely personal songs. Yes, there was a costume contest for all the people who came in spooky gear. There were some terrific costumes, but no one could top Derryk, who brought along his pet skunk Gypsy.
