Mass Hysteria Mini Fest Presents Weekend of Improv & Standup Comedy

Fri 10/22-Sun 10/24

How are you fixed for thought-provoking comedy? The so-called “mini” Mass Hysteria Improv Comedy Fest “created by women, for everyone” takes place this weekend to satisfy that itch with three days of improv, storytelling, workshops and local performers.

Story Club Cle hosts an open mic to kick things off on Friday October 22 @ 7pm, followed by “No F*cks Given” @ 8:45, organized by Dionne Atchison and featuring comics Candice Williams, Alexa Irizarry, Erin White and Melissa Logsdon, plus audience members who want the chance to “vent for five minutes to get stuff off their chest.”

Saturday evening kicks off at 7pm with “Mental Illness & Friends” hosted by Deena Nyer Mendlowitz, a “comedy/talk show” that features both stand-up and improv as well as conversations with artists with mental health issues. Other participants include special guests Joseph Maxwell & Michelle Smith Quarles, and improv artists Dana Quercioli, Kim Pride, Dionne Atchison & Sam Dee (Dee, along with Mendlowitz, founded Mass Hysteria). That’ll be followed by the “Casually Late Variety Hour,” featuring both standup and improv with an open improv jam afterward.

Then on Sunday, join them for a series of workshops to teach you how to participate in what you’ve been watching. Topics include improv games from ages 12-15; “Let’s Say Yes,” an improv workshop for everyone 18+;  “Heart, Conviction and Simplicity: Cracking the Code to Great Musical Improv”; and “Your stories are good and you should feel good — a beginner’s guide to storytelling.”

It all takes place at Imposters Theater on Professor Avenue in Tremont; Kaiser Art Gallery next door is the place to go for drinks before and after shows.
