Rock & rollers know Robby Krieger, the guitar player for the legendary L.A. band the Doors, and co-writer of such songs as “Light my Fire,” “Break On Through (to the Other Side), “Love Me Two Times,” “People Are Strange,” “Love Her Madly,” and “Hello I Love You” and soul writer of “Touch Me” and “Tell All the People.”
The one-of-a-kind band came together by the end of 1965 in its classic, four-piece line-up (Krieger, drummer John Densmore, keyboard player Ray Manzarek and vocalist Jim Morrison) and lasted until Morris’s death in July 1971; attempts to keep it going without his distinctive voice were unsuccessful.
Now Krieger has written about his experiences with the band in a book called Set the Night on Fire: Living, Dying, and Playing Guitar with the Doors, talking about some aspects of the band’s heyday that were previously unknown and sharing his perspective on some of the band’s better known and infamous incidents.
He’ll be the guest of the Hudson Library & Historical Society for a virtual author event, which will be moderated by Rock Hall Senior Director of Museum & Archival Collections Andy Leach. The event is free but you must register. Go here to do so. Copies of Set the Night on Fire are available for purchase through Hudson’s Learned Owl Book Shop.

Does Robby remember accidentally blowing out the amp of Jefferson Airplane guitarist Jorma at The Cheetah when The Doors played there in the spring of 1967?
