The International Women’s Air & Space Museum’s annual “Dinner with a Slice of History” returns with a program called “World War II Women in Aviation: An Exploration in Leadership.”
Norwich University Professor of History and Political Science Dr. Reina Pennington, a former Air Force intelligence officer, will look at segregated organizations in both the U.S. and the Soviet Union to recruit and train women aviators to serve in WW II. She’ll look at the women who led these efforts and their different leadership styles. She will specifically focus on Marina Raskova, who led the Soviet effort, and Jacqueline Cochran who led the U.S.’s parallel program, and explore their accomplishments.
Pennington is the author of Wings, Women and War: Soviet Airwomen in World War II Combat, and is now working on a new book titled What Russia Can Teach Us About War.
Tickets are $25 for non-members, $15 for members and include the program and a boxed dinner. Registration in advance is required; deadline to register is September 14. Go to iwasm.org.
