Donnie Iris & the Cruisers Return to the Kent Stage

Sat 8/14 @ 8PM

Donnie Iris & the Cruisers are almost as much of a Cleveland institution as Michael Stanley was, despite the frontman being from western Pennsylvania (some of the Cruisers are from Cleveland). And the two played countless bills together.

While we lost Michael this past March (still hard to wrap your head around), Donnie, now 78 years old, rocks on, after nearly 60 decades in music. He performed with doo wop group, with a frat band, and  finally in the mid 60s with his first professional band, the Jaggerz, which had a hit with “The Rapper” in 1970. After He then performed with local Pittsburgh sensation B.E. Taylor and Wild Cherry during their “Play That Funky Music” period, where he met Cleveland keyboard player Mark Avsec, with whom he formed the Cruisers in the late 70s. Although their hard-touring years are behind them, the band still plays from time to time, and Iris and Avsec are still a team.

They’ll be back at the Kent Stage to relive the good times; they last played there in September 2019. Tickets are $35-$50.
