Local painter Eileen Dorsey isn’t just a talented, hard-working prolific artist. She also works hard to expand her outreach to find new ways to make sure her work gets seen, an essential component of connecting art to the walls of people who will love living with it.
Last year during the pandemic, when she could no longer host visitors at her 7th Street Studios space, she hosted online talks, showing her work, and expanded her in-community mural work painting murals for Barrio and Flannery’s Pub. This year, she’s busy with a raft of exhibits, including a current one at Cain Park’s Feinberg Gallery, on view through September 12, that adds abstracts, portraits and collaborations with fellow artist Garrett Weider to her distinctive, artfully colored landscapes. She’s also had recent shows at BAYarts and the Cleveland Botanical Gardens.
Certainly, few local artists deserve recognition by their hometown as much as Dorsey, and she’ll be honored at a celebration at the Westlake Art Festival, hosted by the Westlake-Bay Village Rotary Saturday July 31, which they’ve dubbed “Eileen Dorsey Day.” The festival runs from 10am-5pm but at 9:45am before it opens, they’ll be presenting Eileen with a proclamation.
To check out her work, go to eileendorsey.com or drop in on her next Third Friday. Her doors are always open then.
