Polka’s not dead. And the National Cleveland-Style (Slovenian) Polka Hall of Fame is out to prove it.
The Euclid-based hall of fame (which you really should stop in and visit eve if it’s not as big and flashy as the Rock Hall) is hosting the Battle of the Polka Bands of Tomorrow, taking place at the SNPJ Slovenian Farm in Kirtland on Sunday July 18.
Things get started at 1pm when polka veteran Eddie Rodick leads the orchestra backing the competitors, a group of young accordionists that includes Cleveland’s Joshua Kay and TJ Likovic, Pittsburgh’s Garrett Tatano and Youngstown’s RJ Zolka. The dance floor will be open from 1-7pm with a nonstop stream of polkas, waltzes and pop tunes while you decide who you what to vote for.
Sandwiches and beverages will be available to fuel your feet and the Polka Hall of Fame will have a pop-up shop so you can take home a souvenir. Admission is $10 in advance or $12 at the door and benefits the Polka Hall of Fame and Archives in Euclid.
