Husband and wife Laurie Michelle and Ed Caner formed folk/Americana band Hey Mavis a decade ago, during a residency at Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Since then, they’ve released three albums and developed a reputation as one of Northeast Ohio’s finest roots music bands with their free-ranging take on roots music, weaving blues, jazz, folk and country strands into Laurie’s graceful songs. In 2018, she released Silver Ribbon Dream — Songs and Stories of the Ohio & Erie Canal, a book/CD that pays tribute to the Ohio landscape, backed by Hey Mavis.
In addition to Laurie on banjo and vocals and Ed on violin, the band features two in-demand area musicians: bassist Bryan Thomas and percussionist Anthony Taddeo.
Their music should sound wonderful in the outdoor meadow setting at Lorain County’s Riverdog Retreat where they’ve set up tables, chairs and tents. You need to make a reservation and pre-pay, which you can do here. The policy on food & drink hasn’t changed: bring your picnic basket, bring your cooler, have a good time!
