Cleveland Museum of Art Opens New Community Arts Center

Sat 6/12

The Cleveland Museum of Art will be officially opening its Community Arts Center in the Clark-Fulton neighborhood on Saturday June 12. The center will be headquarters for CMA’s community arts staff and education outreach programming, offering art making experiences for all ages. Among the programs are its legendary events include Parade the Circle, Chalk Festival and Winter Lights Lantern Festival and its mobile Studio Go.

For its opening, the Community Arts Center will feature an exhibit called Parade the Circle: Celebrating 30 Years of Art and Community, dedicated to the signature event at Wade Oval, created by Cleveland Arts Prize winner Robin VanLear, who now runs her own art/events organization. It’ll feature some of the iconic puppets, costumes and masks created by teams of volunteers in the months leading up to the annual June event, last held in 2019.

That same day CMA will launch the more dispersed Parade the City, a response to the pandemic.  It features installation created by eight community groups. Once the pandemic fully recedes, the center will offer classes, events and art making opportunities of all types. For now, it will be open Wednesdays-Fridays to Friday @ 2-7pm and Saturday and Sunday @ 10am-5pm.
