Among the things you should check out at this months Walk All Over Waterloo is the new show at the Praxis Fiber Workshop gallery titled Tactile: New Directions in Textile.
The show features four artists who take very different approaches to working with textiles, using traditional techniques such as weaving, tufting, stitching and punch needle, along with nontraditional materials such as food packaging, scrap fabric and glitter, expanding the obundaries of what fine art can be.
Lizzie Essi and Nyki Fetterman, both based in northeast Ohio, address consumerism in their work, with Essi using discarded materials and Fetterman in her food imagery. Cleveland’s Megan Young also used uses non-traditional material such as dish-sponges and soda containers, while Guest, makes cloud-like forms out of scraps of fabric.
The show runs through Sunday August 1. Learn more about the show and the artists at praxisfiberworkshop.com/upcoming-exhibitions.
