Writers Talk About Creating Rust Belt Oral Histories

Cleveland-based Belt Publishing as founded in 2013 to tell stories about the Rust Belt region through the eyes of people who live or lived there. Although it’s published some historic works and fiction, most of its releases are nonfiction, focused on a particular city.

For its next event, “Bearing Witness: Collecting Oral Histories in the Rust Belt,” three regional writers about the value of oral histories for doing research and community outreach, and offer ideas for how you can start your own oral history project.

Panelists include Samuel Love of Gary, Indiana, Akron native Yanick Lamb and Susan Hyatt. Ryan Schnurr moderates. It’s free. Go here to listen to the discussion.
