Adele Bertei got her start in Cleveland, but she made her mark as a denizen of New York’s No Wave scene, followed by a dazzling career as a singer and collaborator with industry giants like Thomas Dolby, Boy George and Brian Eno.
Her first book, Peter and the Wolves, chronicles her friendship with the influential Cleveland punk progenitor Peter Laughner, who formed Rocket From the Tombs and Pere Ubu.
Her new book, Why Labelle Matters is an affectionate and erudite tribute to the talent and tenacity of three East coast city girls who rose from doo wop crooners to the heights of glam rock stardom. The book was just published by University of Texas Press and is available here.
