Two Bands Play Drive-In Concert to Raise Money for Backing Musicians

Sat 5/29 @ 4PM

Just be patient. Regular outdoor concerts where you can hang out with friends and dance are on the horizon (The Music in the Meadow series at Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Howe Meadows is back on the schedule, for instance).

Meanwhile, there’s still this drive-in stuff where you listen from or next to your car. Last summer, Cleveland-based Brazilian guitarist Moises Borges and his band performed a pair of drive-in concerts in the parking lot of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland in Shaker Heights to raise money for the back-up musicians who play in bands behind the front person but can’t keep afloat doing solo shows by themselves.

The shows were successful and so they’re doing it against. Borges and crew will bring the lively Brazilian beats, while Akron’s Mo’Mojo will get the party started with their zydeco-influenced music. Once again the audience will be in or next to their cars, socially distanced; each car will be assigned to two spots with a stage area in front of the cars.

Although the event is technically free, they’re asking people to make a donation “that matters to you” (hopefully at least $25) at this site. They’ll also accept donations at the door. Rain day is May 30.
