Bonfoey Gallery is one of several spaces around town that’s mounting a photography show in May and June in conjunction with the Cleveland Photo Fest. It features six Cleveland-area photographers from different generations and cultures, working in very different styles, a tour of the diverse ways local artists have put photography to use.
They include four whose reputations have been established over several decades: Abe Frajndlich, known for his infrared photos and his portraits of noted authors and artists; Christopher Pekoc, who does photo-based, stitched mixed-media assemblages; Jeannette Palsa, a portrait and wedding photographer who has also worked in vintage processes; and Garie Waltzer, whose urban photography evolves from her extensive travels. Representing a younger generation are Donald Black Jr., who uses photography & installation to document the Black experience, and Amanda King, founder of activist arts group Shooting Without Bullets, who’ve just risen to prominence in the past few years.
The show opens Saturday May 1 with an all-day opening event. The gallery is asking people to schedule a time slot to visit. It will be on view through June 30.
