Alto sax player Nathan-Paul Davis is a familiar face in northeast Ohio clubs. He was in the horn section of the popular Akron neo-soul ensemble Wesley Bright & the Hi-Lites from 2011-2015, then formed his own soul-funk group, the Admirables.
That band has become a favorite among northeast Ohio listeners who liked the sweaty dance music of the Hi-Lites. They combine obscure soul classics with Davis’ original material, deft instrumentals by jazz-grounded players with vocals by Davis fueled with gospel passion.
Davis will be leading the Admirables, featuring Tommy Lehman on trumpet, Zaire Darden on drums, Frank Walton of key bass and Andru Dennis on keys, in a live streamed concert at the BOP STOP, organized by Baldwin Wallace University’s Management and Entrepreneurship program.
It’s free to listen on the BOP STOP’s Facebook page, but donations for the musicians will be warmly welcomed. Go here to donate. Go here to listen.
