There’s a lot of news coming from the Morgan Conservatory, the nonprofit arts group specializing in paper arts, from growing the plants to make paper to papermaking to turning the paper into books, posters and works of art.
Its leadership has been in flux over the last several years, although founder/artistic director Tom Balbo has stayed in place to provide continuity on the creative side. Leonard D. Young, who has served two stints as the organization’s Interim Executive Director in the last three-and-a-half years, has been named executive director for keeps.
He took over the “interim” role in September 2017 and remained through August 2019 when Geri Eileen Unger was appointed ED. She left after a single year and Young returned to his “interim” role in August 2020.
“Since August, Leonard and the Morgan staff designed and launched a plan to introduce virtual online programs, reopen the gallery, and finalize the re-introduction of in-person workshops beginning in June 2021,” the Morgan tells us in the press release. “Several volunteers joined founder Tom Balbo and other staff in a socially distant yet exciting Kozo Harvest last fall. Virtual workshops, artist talks, and the opening of the first 2021 gallery exhibit were all well received.”
It adds that Young “wants to stay in touch in meaningful ways. If you have a comment to share, please email Leonard directly at lyoung@morganconservatory.org.”

In addition, Morgan’s Senior Program Manager Tana Pierro has told us she’s leaving her job in May to go back to school. This crucial job involves overseeing its workshops, its gallery exhibits and its community outreach programs. The job posting is here for anyone who has the interest and qualifications to be part of this vibrant organization.
