Fri 4/2-Wed 5/12
Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls opens two new shows this week, both of which you can see live in their galleries during their regular hours, Monday-Friday @ 10am-5pm and Saturday @ 10am-2pm.
Illustrious Alum spotlights how Valley Arts Center helped propel the careers of area artists who went on from their early days there to build careers that extended beyond the region. They include landscape painter Judith Brandon; figurative landscape painter H. Craig Hanna, animation artist Jeremey Galante; sculptor Kate Kaman; portrait painter Judy Takacs; and Sam Waterson, creator of comic series Calvin and Hobbes.
The second show, Whisky Painters of America, features a very specific and not widely known form of painting, which they describe this way: “A genuine Whiskey Painting consists of painting a miniature piece of art no larger than 4″ X 5″ with watercolor pigment, dipping your brush in some form of alcoholic spirits, then possibly sipping the alcohol, thereby enhancing the painting experience.” It looks at the early days of VAC and the involvement of founding member Florian K. Lawton and artists Lois Salmon Toole and Darlene Jackson.
The show will be on view through Wednesday May 12.
