Cleveland has had countless conferences about devoted to sharing/brainstorming ideas for a brighter future — something it’s sorely in need of. But hope springs eternal, which is a good thing.

At least you won’t have to get dressed up and check your supply of business cards to attend the upcoming “Building the 21st Century City: The Future Is Now!,” symposium, which is entirely online.

Hosted by the Cleveland District Council of the Urban Land Institute and the City of Cleveland, the two-day event, they tell us, “will discuss themes that will allow the city to maximize its future prosperity with an emphasis on inclusivity.” It will focus on three areas: technology, mobility and inclusive economic development. It hopes to drive policies and programs to make those areas more than just talk.

The first day will be opened by ideastream’s Rich Jackson, who’ll introduce remarks by Mayor Frank Jackson, ULI Cleveland District Council Chair Steve Ross, and Cleveland City Planning Director Freddy Collier Jr. Strategic forecaster and “futurist” Ben Hammersley wraps things up with a keynote address.

The second day will feature morning and afternoon panels on each of the three focus areas will more than two dozen participants from a wide range of business, nonprofit, media and government backgrounds. Find detailed information on topics and speakers here. https://cleveland.uli.org/events/building-the-21st-century-city-the-future-is-now/

Tickets range from $30 for member students to $115 for non-member general public. Register to attend here.
