Two weeks ago we told you about the two new baby tigers born at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo on the night of Christmas Eve/Christmas Day. The boy and girl cubs are being cared for by expert zookeepers (tiger mom Zoya decided she didn’t want to be bothered) and they’re thriving. We’ll get to see these adorable babies something this spring when they join Zoya and father Hector in the Rosebrough Tiger Passage habitat.
Meanwhile, they need names! As usual, the zoo is sponsoring a name contest where participants can vote for their favorite among a short list of names selected by the Zoo. For the male, you can choose from Luka, Ivan and Yuri; the female will be Valentina, Anya or Tatiana. “The names pay homage to Amur tigers’ native regions in Russia,” the zoo explains.
Here’s how it works. Go to the naming page and make a donation of any amount next to the name you like. The winning names will be the ones that get the most donations by February 24. All money raised will go to fighting the illegal wildlife trade.
