Fri 2/26 @ 7PM
Robert Randolph is sui generis in popular music: a Black gospel-based pedal steel guitar player with roots in the jam band scene and strong influences from funk and soul music drawing from sources such as Sly & the Family Stone and Earth, Wind and Fire.
His ensemble Robert Randolph and the Family Band launched in the early 2000s. Since the release of their first (live) album in 2002, they’ve released six studio albums — the most recent 2019’s Brighter Days — and another concert album. They’re known for their fiery live shows, which often find Randolph doing as much dancing as playing.
As part of the Rock Hall’s Black History Month Program, its Vice President of Education and Visitor Experience Jason Hanley will talk to Randolph about growing up in church, and Randolph will play a few songs from the Rock Hall stage. You can watch on the Rock Hall’s Facebook page or YouTube channel.
