The Cleveland History Center’s Speaking of Cleveland series taps experts in various aspects of the region’s history to share their knowledge and expertise. This month it delves into Cleveland’s influential black churches in “Praying Grounds: African American Faith Communities.”

The speaker, Dr. Regennia N. Williams, is a scholar/researcher with a PhD from Case Western Reserve University. She currently serves as a program consultant at the Cleveland History Center’s parent organization, the Western Reserve Historical Society. She’ll talk about the role of religion in the Black community and how it’s changed over the years, as Black churches have become hubs of social service, community organizing and political action in addition to faith. She’ll draw on her ongoing research for the Praying Grounds Oral History Project and her many books and articles relating to various aspects of Black history and culture.

Admission is $15, $10 for WRHS members. Register at this link to receive the Zoom link for the program.
