Fri 1/22-Fri 3/19
SPACES has several new exhibits in the pipeline, with a couple slated to open in the galleries next week with viewing hours by appointment. This week, however, it’s opening an interactive, technology-based online project called Apologize to America by Leo Selvaggio, who is doing a time-based arts residency.
Described as a “participatory Augmented Reality project” utilizing a custom Snapchat lens, dubbed the Apologize2AmericaLens, it gives people the chance to insert themselves into Donald Trump’s persona and give voice to the sort of apology they think he owes America.
“The technology implemented here is intentionally not a deep fake,” says the artist.“The goal is not to convincingly produce expressions of regret on his behalf, but rather to imagine and produce a fantastical future in which 45 is held accountable.”
Responses will be archived on the Apologize to America website and participants are encouraged to share their submission on their own social media pages with the hashtags #apologize2america or #trumpology.
The online exhibition runs from Fri 1/22-Fri 3/19.
