Jeff Reding Performs Music To Celebrate David Bowie

Thu 01.07 9PM

Jeff Reding’s music comes from a lifetime of involvement with musicians, in the studio, behind the camera and on stage. Lately, he’s been perfecting the art of livestreaming. Jeff feels like his streaming shows are getting better and better.
To celebrate David Bowie’s birthday (Jan 8) and the anniversary of his passing (Jan 10), Jeff will be presenting a livestream concert starting at David Bowie’s first release, David Bowie, and doing songs up through his Aladdin Sane period, with a few later deep cuts thrown in.
Selections may include early novelties such as Rubber Band, and There’s A Happy Land, through to classics like The Man Who Sold The World, Space Oddity, and Life on Mars, including some deep cuts like Queen Bitch, Kooks, The Pretty Things Are Going To Hell and others.
The show is in flux, says Reding, “I’m still debating whether to include The Laughing Gnome,” if he can get the “Gnomenclature” sounding good. If you get that joke, you’ll enjoy Jeff’s show.
What dos David Bowie mean to Jeff Reding? “Oh God. Magic. He’s been at the top of my list since I first heard Space Oddity. Everything beyond that, as I got more into music, then I discovered the Pye stuff. I was thinking about doing Please Mr. Gravedigger. But that’s just voices and sound effects.
“Honestly, I’m doing more of the early acoustic material. Beyond Aladdin, everything is heavier with power guitars. Young Americans is mostly funk, Fame is out.”
Jeff plays the Q Chord (pictured), which is an electronic harp and guitar that he plays on his lap. Has over 100 different voices and 40 different rhythms. Jeff also sings and vocalizes as well.
Syd Barrett was a major influence on David Bowie, and Reding is on the same wavelength. His ambient set closer, a medley of Pink Floyd’s Time, Brain Damage and Eclipse will probably close the show. And he’s considering performing the early Pink Floyd classics, See Emily Play and Arnold Layne.
Jeff will also preview his colleagues’ show A Lad Insane: The Beautiful Mind of David Bowie on Friday and Saturday, presented by Thomas Anonymous and Vanity Crash, highlighting some of the mental health issues that plagued his family and which undoubtedly inspired him to do do the amazing things he did as an artist.
